RankBrain: A Machine AIl That is Processing Google Search Queries
We all know that Google search algorithm is hand-crafted by Google engineers. Meet RankBrain, a machine-learning artificial intelligence(AI) that Google has been using to process a very huge fraction of search results every single day.
However, it is not a complete replacement of Hummingbird, Google's search algorithm. The algorithm is the system that helps process whatever people search for and goes through billions of pages to rank the ones at the top which it believes to be the best.

Is RankBrain the New Way to Interpret Queries?
No. RankBrain seems to be about one part of that algorithm which interprets what someone is searching for and then understanding how to submit that request in various ways, instead. RankBrain uses artificial intelligence to embed vast amount of written language into mathematical entities which are called vectors. The computer can understand vectors and it then shows the results of the words which may have a similar meaning, unlike the way Google and other search engines used to work in the past by giving the results with only those matching the exact words.
Is RankBrain the Third most Important Signal?
Yes, the story agrees that a very huge fraction percent of queries are now being processed with RankBrain. It also says that RankBrain is the third-most important signal in ranking. A ranking signal is basically something that is associated with the recognized quality of a page such as the links to it or the words on the page. Google has hundreds of these ranking signals and RankBrain stands to be the third-most important signal among them.
Though we think that RankBrain is more of a query processing tool rather than a ranking signal, the story suggests that it is used for ranking.
